Last word

I am no poet, heaven knows I’ve tried before and failed.

But I like how this one came out.

rabbitinhatthehat-howard-ross.jpg

Houdini

So charismatic when he’s there
But all too soon, will disappear
An empty stage is all thats left.
Sawdust, a dove, its life bereft.

Such an awful trick.

Reminds me of Dorothy Parker.

Me too! Hallo Sally! But I'm outta here until I can face my beloved publisher (Colleen) with a clear conscience...

Very nice. Love how the title doubles as a first line, and the last line doubles as a kind of coda. Terse and spare - just how I like poetry to be.
