Calling all young writers

Short Story Day Africa is once again running a short story competition aimed at young writers aged between 14 and 17. I will be judging alongside Cat Hellisen and Byron Loker.

The theme for this year’s competition is Fairy tales, Myths & Legends Re-imagined.

What if Snow White was a goth rebelling against her mean stepmother and the Seven Dwarves was the name of her band? What if The Pied Piper called zombies instead of rats? What if Cinderella was a pyromaniac and The Little Match Girl was her best friend?

Write an original re-imagined fairy tale, myth, legend or fable and you could win fantastic fiction titles from NB Publishers for yourself and your school library. Word limit between 500 – 1200 words. The closing date is 15 July 2013.

Better get writing! (Hint: I can’t speak for the other judges but a touch of darkness will always make me sit up and take notice.)

For more information on Short Story Day or the YA (young adult) competition visit the official website.
