Halloween delights

It’s no secret that I love Halloween. Spooky stories, scary movies, dress up parties and sweets…what’s not to love?

Happily, my Halloween festivities stretched out over a couple of weeks.

I joined hundreds of other Capetonians to take part in Zombie Walk for the second year in a row. We lurched our way from Thibault Square to the Company Gardens, frightening squirrels and an unsuspecting wedding party along the way. I went as a zombie nurse; my back story being that I treated Patient Zero.

Then there was Bloody Parchment, an annual night of chilling tales at the Book Lounge that forms part of Cape Town Horrorfest. This year’s event coincided with the launch of The Root Cellar and other Stories, the third volume in the Bloody Parchment anthology series, featuring my story, Jethro McKenzie and the Devil.

Buy it here.

A highlight this year was my short story, Apartment 415 (which first appeared in Volume 1 of the Bloody Parchment anthology and later in Jungle Jim Magazine) being featured on the Tales to Terrify Halloween podcast.

Listen to it here.

And finally, the best Halloween surprise of them all. Matt Imrie, librarian extraordinaire, blogger, and fellow LEGO lover, created this amazing LEGO stop motion video where Sharp Edges and The Shining Girls make cameo appearances.

Check out Matt’s blog here.

Now, for my Halloween gifts to you.

For those that missed it, I posted a short story on my blog for Halloween, entitled After Dark.

The soft chink of chain makes me spin round. They’re here. Standing on the tyre swings and hanging from the wooden beams. There are five of them in total, three guys and two girls, their hollow-rimmed eyes shining in the moonlight. They’re laughing, cackling really, the kind of laugh that only those that have nothing to worry about can manage. It’s a jarring sound.

Read it here.

I also made some spooky #legostories which you can check out on my Tumblr.

Till next year, lovelies.
